Upgrade DesignPLUS Sidebar Upgrade

This reference sheet shows you how to upgrade to the new DesignPLUS Sidebar from the DesignTool Sidebar in Canvas. The new DesignPLUS offers robust tools for designing your Canvas course content.

This document is geared towards current users of DesignPLUS Sidebar. If you are new to Design Plus/Tools, please get in touch with the Instruction Innovation Center for training and support.

Upgrading to the DesignPLUS Sidebar

Reminder: To use DesignPLUS Sidebar, you must be in Edit Mode within Canvas Pages, Discussion, Announcements, or Quiz (for Instruction).  

 

Activating The Design Tool Sidebar

  1. Go to Edit mode within Pages, Discussion, Announcements, or Quiz
  2. At the same time, press one of the following
    1. ATL + Shift + D (Windows)
    2. OPT + Shift + D (Mac)

Switching Between the Design Tools Sidebar (old) and the DesignPLUS Sidebar (new)

  1. Once you activate the Design Tool Sidebar and want to switch to the DesignPLUS Sidebar, press one of the following at the same time:
    1. ATL + Shift + V (Windows)
    2. OPT + Shift + V (Mac)

NOTE: You can switch between the tools.

 

Updating Your Canvas Content (Pages, Discussion, Announcements or Quiz)

Updating your content page, discussion, announcements, or quiz content to the DesignPLUS Sidebar is recommended to ensure the tools work effectively.

Upgrade all content tab

  1. Click the Accessibility/Usability tab
  2. Navigate to the Usability section
  3. Click the Upgrade button

Upgrade individual pages panel

You have two options:

  1. You can click the gray button -  Upgrade All xx Items (Recommended) button
  2. Click the blue link -Individual Upgrades (Advanced)

 

Just to remind you, once you upgrade the page, you cannot easily reverse to the old Design Tools Sidebar.
